Alison Markovitz

About
Alison Markovitz is the chief operating officer at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. In this position, she manages global operations for the Carnegie Endowment, including overseeing the finance, human resources, IT, facilities, and legal teams. She also serves as the organization’s corporate secretary, managing compliance, corporate governance, and board operations. In addition, she is the chair of the board of Carnegie China LLC, based in Singapore, and the Carnegie Europe Foundation, based in Brussels.
Before joining Carnegie, Markovitz served from 2017-2022 as the chief strategic partnerships officer at Fermilab, the United States’ leading particle physics and accelerator laboratory. She oversaw several operational areas and chaired the board of global funding agencies supporting the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment, an international flagship experiment.
From 2011-2017, Markovitz held leadership positions at the U.S. Department of Energy, including as senior advisor to the secretary of energy with a focus on agency operations and the U.S. National Laboratories. As an attorney, she worked at the White House as a deputy associate counsel, at a national law firm based in San Francisco, and as a law clerk at the California Supreme Court and at the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
Markovitz received a J.D. from Yale Law School and an undergraduate degree from Yale University in political science and international studies.
